Two men, Remy Gordon and Kami Carpenter, have been convicted for the murder of 23-year-old footballer Cody Fisher, who was fatally stabbed on Boxing Day 2022 inside Crane nightclub in Birmingham. The attack, described as pre-planned and an act of retribution, occurred in the presence of over 2,000 patrons due to a minor incident that happened two days earlier.
The court heard that Gordon orchestrated this violent response following a brief encounter with Fisher at a club in Solihull on Christmas Eve. Utilizing mobile phone footage and social media messages, the prosecution demonstrated Gordon’s intent for revenge. During the trial, which lasted 10 weeks at Birmingham Crown Court, it emerged that Carpenter and Gordon mocked the incident after carrying out the attack, showing the sinister nature behind their actions.
Cody Fisher, formerly associated with the Birmingham City academy, tragically lost his life due to a chest wound inflicted during the incident. Beyond his football career, Fisher was also remembered for his dedication to teaching young children, an aspect highlighted by his grieving mother who branded the killers as “evil.”
Another individual, Reegan Anderson, was involved in the case, acquitted of murder charges but found guilty of affray. Throughout the trial, the defendants attempted to shift blame onto one another, but both Gordon and Carpenter were ultimately convicted of murder. Anderson’s sentencing is scheduled post-Easter.
The tragic event has incited a broader conversation about nightclub security and the consequences of senseless violence, with the council revoking Crane nightclub’s license over safety and drug-related issues. The death of Cody Fisher has left a deep impact on his community and serves as a distressing example of how minor confrontations can escalate into irreversible outcomes. Sentencing for Gordon and Carpenter is pending, as they remain in custody awaiting the court’s decision post-Easter bank holiday.
