Georgia Laurie to be honoured for punching crocodile to save twin sister in Mexican lagoon
Georgia Laurie, a 31-year-old from Sandhurst in Berkshire, UK, is set to receive a bravery award from the King’s first Civilian Gallantry List. The recognition comes after she saved her twin sister, Melissa Laurie, from a crocodile attack in Mexico in June 2021. Melissa had been dragged underwater by the reptile in a lagoon near Puerto Escondido. Despite being injured herself during the rescue, Georgia managed to punch the crocodile repeatedly until it released Melissa. Melissa suffered a wrist fracture, puncture wounds to the abdomen, and other injuries but survived the ordeal after being placed in an induced coma. The forthcoming award acknowledges Georgia Laurie’s acts of bravery, making her one of the first recipients during King Charles III’s reign.
