The recognition comes after he rescued four teenage girls from rough seas at Caloundra Beach on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast in March 2022.
Bradbury’s quick thinking and courage were vital in saving the teens from treacherous waters when he spotted them struggling while teaching his son to surf. He directed his son to alert lifeguards and managed to rescue all four girls before additional help arrived.
The commendation was presented by Queensland Governor Jeannette Young in Brisbane. Reflecting on his actions, Bradbury compared the experience to his Olympic efforts, expressing pride in being able to act decisively in a critical moment. Australian Olympic Committee President Ian Chesterman lauded his bravery, noting the life-saving impact of his actions.
