Piers Morgan expresses discontent with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s behaviour, suggesting they are undermining the royal family through their ‘unofficial’ activities, including a tour in Nigeria and the operations of their charity, Archewell.
On May 14, 2024, Piers Morgan criticized Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, referring to them as acting like an “unofficial renegade royal family.” The commentary occurred during an interview with Billy Bush on the show Extra. Morgan expressed discontent with the couple’s actions, which he described as damaging to the monarchy and inconsistent with traditional royal conduct. This reaction from Morgan followed Prince Harry’s prior engagement at the Invictus Games’ 10th-anniversary celebration in the UK and the Sussexes’ 72-hour tour in Nigeria, which Morgan and others perceived as mimicking a royal tour.
Morgan, known for his forthright opinions on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, suggested that King Charles should strip them of their royal titles due to their actions which he believes undermine the royal family. This tour of Nigeria by the Sussexes, described as “unofficial” by Morgan and other commentators, involved activities akin to those of working royals, despite their formal step back from royal duties. The couple’s visit was marked by attendance at cultural events and implied outreach activities, while also expressing personal connections to Nigeria during their engagements.
Further complicating matters for Harry and Meghan, their charitable organization, Archewell, was reported as ‘delinquent’ by California’s state attorney for failing to submit necessary documents; this has hampered its operations temporarily. The report emerged at the same time as the couple concluded their Nigeria trip.
